Branson may be famous for live entertainment, family attractions and the bright lights of Highway 76, but tucked away near the shores of Lake Taneycomo is another side of the city worth exploring.

Historic Downtown Branson combines small-town charm, local history, unique shopping and plenty of places to grab a bite to eat. Whether you're visiting Branson for the first time or looking for something different to add to your vacation, spending a few hours downtown is a great way to experience the city beyond the shows and attractions.

And once you've explored the historic side of Branson? Head down Highway 76 and add a little adrenaline to your day at The Branson Coaster.

Take a Walk Through Historic Downtown Branson

Historic Downtown Branson is made for exploring. Visitors can walk along Main Street and Commercial Street, browse locally owned shops, discover historic buildings and stop at restaurants and cafés along the way.

The area is easy to navigate on foot, but there's another fun (and free) way to get around. Sparky, the Free Downtown Branson Trolley, travels throughout the downtown area and Branson Landing, making it easy to hop on and off while exploring.

Take your time here. Downtown Branson isn't about rushing from attraction to attraction. Part of the experience is wandering into a shop you didn't plan on visiting, finding an unexpected souvenir or stopping for something sweet.

Step Inside a Branson Classic

No trip through Historic Downtown Branson would be complete without visiting Dick's 5 & 10.

A downtown landmark since 1961, this old-fashioned five-and-dime has become an attraction in its own right. Beyond its huge assortment of merchandise, visitors can find collections and displays throughout the store, making browsing half the fun.

People walk past Dick’s 5&10 storefront with red, white and blue bunting, bright signs, and a nostalgic old-time feel.

It's the kind of place where kids, parents and grandparents can all find something interesting, and it's a perfect fit for the nostalgic atmosphere of downtown.

Discover Branson's Story

Want to know how Branson became the destination it is today?

Stop by the Branson Centennial Museum, an admission-free museum where exhibits explore Branson's history and its development into a nationally recognized live entertainment destination.

Downtown itself offers glimpses into that history, too. The historic Branson Depot dates to 1905 and remains the departure point for the Branson Scenic Railway.

Find a Downtown Photo Op

Before leaving, keep an eye out for some of Branson's public art.

Historic Downtown is the starting point for the Branson Art Trail, which highlights murals and artwork connected to the community's history and culture. The growing trail includes the colorful Greetings from Branson mural, a perfect spot to grab a vacation photo!

Grab a Bite Before Your Next Adventure

All that walking and shopping calls for a food break.

Downtown offers everything from classic cafés and comfort food to pizza, sushi and other local favorites. You can make lunch downtown part of the experience before heading toward Branson's famous entertainment district.

Because your Branson day doesn't have to end downtown.

From Historic Charm to Coaster Thrills

After a morning or afternoon exploring Branson's historic streets, trade window shopping for winding turns at The Branson Coaster.

Located at 2115 W. 76 Country Boulevard, The Branson Coaster gives you a completely different way to experience the Ozarks. Riders control their own speed as they travel along the mountain coaster track, so you can enjoy the ride at your own pace, or pick up the speed and make it the thrill-filled finale to your day.

Traveling with the family? Add The Branson Mining Co. to your visit and let the kids sift through their own mining bags to uncover colorful gems and treasures.

It's a fun contrast to the first half of your day:

Historic streets → local shopping → Branson history → lunch → mountain coaster.

That's a pretty good Branson itinerary.

Make a Day of It

One of the best parts about visiting Branson is how many completely different experiences you can fit into one day.

Start in Historic Downtown Branson, browse the shops, learn a little about the city's past and grab something to eat. Then follow Highway 76 to The Branson Coaster and finish your adventure with a ride through the Ozarks.

From historic charm to coaster thrills, you'll get to experience two very different sides of Branson, all in one day.
